With its origins in the sole proprietorship of Manuel Ferreira Júnior, founded in 1950, Bernardino e Ferreira S.A. is a family business that has spanned different generations.
Manuel Ferreira and his wife built this heritage on the ground floor of their house and passed the baton on to their five children, who are the current directors of the company. At the time, the company only had three workers, plus the owners.
As the business evolved, the need arose to grow in terms of space and size. It was then that Manuel Ferreira bought the land next to his house and expanded the company, installations that are still used to prepare the cork.
In 1985, the two brothers formed a partnership a few years later, transforming Manuel Ferreira Júnior into Bernardino & Ferreira, Lda. By this time, the company already had 30 employees.
However, the current manager felt the need to improve the working conditions to ensure the growing market demands and therefore acquired another company and through a merger process was born the current Bernardino & Ferreira, S.A. Currently, the BF has approximately 60 employees.
Currently, Bernardino & Ferreira. S.A has an approximate production of 60 million natural cork stoppers/year. The company’s main markets are Portugal, the United States, Spain and France.
In 2000 and as Quality is BF’s motto, the company joined the International Code of Cork Stopper Manufacturing Practices and the respective certification system, Systecode, because it considers that the proposed requirements discipline its work even more, given that quality is what distinguishes the company from the competition.
In early 2008, it decided to take another step toward customer satisfaction and implemented the quality management system based on the NP EN ISO 9001 standard.
Continuing the BF policy of continuous improvement, in 2013, it created conditions for the implementation of the NP EN ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System.
